CEU determined to finish off Asia's Lashes

CENTRO Escolar University aims for the quick route to the semis against Asia's Lashes Tomas Morato in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup playoffs Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

A hungry Scorpions side is expected to show up in the 3:30 p.m. tiff as they are coming off a 74-88 loss to Marinerong Pilipino last Monday that pushed them down to the second seed in Group A.

Still, the win-once incentive is on their side, and they would definitely want to put that advantage into good use in this quarterfinal showdown.

But this particular CEU batch is composed of younger players led by Senegalese big man Malick Diouf, and coach Derrick Pumaren hopes that youth won't be an issue at such a stage.

"We know we're a young team but we're gonna keep on playing as hard as we can," said the decorated mentor.

That was the problem for CEU the last time out, and that might arise yet again when it takes on an Asia's Lashes side led by seasoned cagers James Martinez and Adrian Celada.

Soldiers mentor Alvin Grey certainly wants to expose that edge as they try to force the sudden death battle.

"Kaya nga dinagdag namin sila James para mas experienced yung players namin kaysa sa mga batang team tulad nila," he said.
