La Salle's Pumaren faces former team CEU

ECOOIL-La Salle has its eyes set on win no. 2 when it collides with Karate Kid-CEU Monday in the 2020 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at Paco Arena in Manila.

The Green Archers have been nothing short of impressive in its maiden foray in the developmental ranks, scoring a 102-90 victory over Wangs-Letran last Monday.

Usual suspects in Justine Baltazar and Aljun Melecio provided the goods for EcoOil-La Salle, but the game also provided a glimpse of Senegalese center Amadou Ndiaye, who collected 12 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in his debut.

That tall frontline gives Green Archers coach Derrick Pumaren the advantage against his former team Scorpions.

"It's like playing against family. It will be exciting," he professed.

The same, however, can't be said of Karate Kid-CEU, which suffered a humiliating 93-57 defeat to Marinerong Pilipino on opening day.

It's a frustrating start for coach Jeff Napa, pressed for time in his bid to rebuild the Scorpions to their old competitive form.

"Proseso ito eh. Kailangan maintindihan pa ng players kung ano yung gusto naming gawin dahil hindi naman ito madalian," he said.

Jerie Pingoy, who had 10 points in the loss, was a pleasant surprise for Karate Kid-CEU. But the Scorpions need more contributions from holdovers like Jordan Intic and Rich Guinitaran if it wants to score the upset.

Game starts at 5 p.m.
