Marinero goes for the kill versus San Sebastian in Game 2

MARINERONG Pilipino goes for the jugular on Sunday when it shoots for a sweep of top-seed Apex Fuel-San Sebastian in Game Two of the 2022 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup semifinals at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Skippers handily beat the Golden Stags,74-66, with Juan Gomez de Liano leading the charge.

For coach Yong Garcia though, the magnificent performance of his side should be attributed to the stringent preparations they had from a week-long break.

"Preparation talaga yung key para sa amin. Laging nandyan yung kumpyansa but kailangan namin gawin ng maayos yung gameplan namin at nagsisimula lahat yun sa preparation namin," he said, with Marinerong Pilipino seeking to continue its mastery over Apex Fuel-San Sebastian this conference.

It's an added motivation, too, that the Skippers are seeking a return trip to the Finals after finishing as bridesmaid to BRT Sumisip-St. Clare back in the 2019 Foundation Cup.

"Nandoon na kami eh, so humuhugot talaga kami doon para makuha na yung inaasam namin ngayon," said Garcia, who is trotting out a brand new crew with Gomez de Liano, Go, and Kemark Carino leading the way.

But the Golden Stags are no pushovers They are expected to fight back and force a winner-take-all Game Three. Game 2 is set at 12 p.m.

"Lalaban lang yung team namin. Yun lang ang maipapangako ko," said coach Egay Macaraya who is expecting bigger games from the likes of Romel Calahat, Ichie Altamirano, and Ken Villapando. (RL)
