Arinze Onuaku on Meralco's bid for coveted seat: 'We control our destiny'

Meralco's next games to end the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup looks like this: Alaska, TNT, and Rain or Shine.

To any team, that's certainly a tall mountain to scale given those teams position in the standings at the moment.

But for Arinze Onuaku, he says bring it on.

The former Best Import awardee is unfazed of the gravity of the Bolts' next foes to round out the eliminations, knowing that at the end of the day, their fate is in their hands.

"We control our own destiny," he said. "All the teams ahead of us we play so it's a good thing. We got three more games so we'll try to win them to get a better position for the playoffs."

Onuaku has every reason to feel confident, especially after Meralco's 102-75 rout over Blackwater on Friday to formally secure its seat in the quarterfinals.

With most of the locals up to the task, the 30-year-old bruiser had the luxury to play only 28 minutes but still deliver his usual numbers of 17 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.

If things continue this way for the Bolts, Onuaku says that he won't have much problem deferring to his teammates, knowing that these are welcome help in their goals of inching closer to the championship.

"I think everything starts with me here. But that's my job, to set my teammates up and that's the same approach I take every game," he said. "You got a talented group and we've been working really hard. So we're definitely confident."(DL)
