Blackwater, Ginebra bring back old reliables

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Blackwater have recalled imports Justin Brownlee and Henry Walker in their bid to get out of their respective slumps in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Brownlee replaces Charles Garcia with Ginebra in need of a turnaround after a 1-3 start in the tournament while Walker was tapped to fill in for Jarrid Famous as Blackwater tries to keep its playoff hopes alive despite a 0-6 record.

The two "balik-imports" will make their returns next week when the action in the Commissioner's Cup resumes after the All-Star festivities in Davao, Batangas and Iloilo.

Blackwater takes on NLEX on May 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum even as Ginebra plays Meralco on June 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Brownlee is expected to revive Ginebra winning ways, much like he did in the last two seasons when the Tim Cone-mentored squad won back-to-back Governors' Cup titles.

He recently teamed up with current San Miguel import Renaldo Balkman in helping Alab Pilipinas win the ASEAN Basketball League title.

Walker, who played for the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, is making his fourth PBA stint, including last season's Governors' Cup when Blackwater reached the quarterfinals. The former Alaska and NLEX import was supposed to start his stint with Elite next conference.

Both are the latest replacement imports tapped in a span of seven days after San Miguel hired Balkman to replace Troy Gillenwater, TNT KaTropa reuniting with Joshua Smith after sending home Jeremy Tyler and Phoenix activating Eugene Phelps and placing James White on the injured list.

Magnolia has yet to name its replacement for Vernon Macklin, who signed a contract to play in China.
