Brownlee set to arrive; Forte, Hester for measurement

AFTER some delay, Barangay Ginebra's wait for the arrival of Justin Browlee would be over anytime Wednesday.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone confirmed Brownlee's scheduled arrival on the same day the imports of NorthPort Batang Pier and Terrafirma Dyip were set for their official measurement.

Only the five debuting PBA imports - Blackwater's Jaylen Bond, NorthPort's Cameron Forte, Terrafirma's Antonio Hester, TNT Tropang Giga's McKenzie Moore and Meralco's Tony Bishop - are required measurement.

The Blackwater reinforcement has been measured at 6-foot-5 and 9/19.

Brownlee and the other returning PBA imports need not be re-measured for the PBA Governors Cup set to fire off Wednesday and run with a daily double-header from Wednesday to Sunday.

Needless to say, Ginebra is among the teams to watch, being the Governors' Cup champ in three of the last four editions of the tourney.

They're a tested team with Brownlee as the regular import in the tourney pegging at 6-foot-6 the height limit for reinforcements.

They're the defending champs, and egging to come out for a redemption run after a mediocre showing in the last Philippine Cup.

"We definitely took a step back after winning back-to-back championships. But we're now working to take two steps forward and get back to the top," said Cone. "We need to be able to compete with the San Miguels and TNTs of the league."

After bringing in Christian Standhardinger last tourney, the team continued to tweak its lineup by acquiring Sidney Onwubere in exchange for Art dela Cruz Jr.

"In Sidney, we saw a player who's shown flashes of solid potential," Cone said of the 6-foot-4 Onwubere, who averaged 9.6 points. 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists for NorthPort. "We're hoping we can bring more out of his game at Ginebra."

But much of the attention is expected to be on Brownlee. (SB)
