Cone anticipates terrific battle as Kings duel with Aces

Coach Tim Cone foresees a "terrific battle,"and coach Alex Compton braces for nothing less.

A slam-bang duel could really be in the offing as Alaska Milk and Barangay Ginebra clash in a crucial setto in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.

The Aces seek to firm up spot at second place while Gin Kings chase a fourth straight win for an outright playoff entry as they slug it out at 6:45 p.m.

"Ginebra is playing great basketball right now and I feel like it will be a playoff atmosphere. We are excited for the game and hoping the PBA fans are thoroughly entertained," said Compton.

"Tough game, tough opponent, and so crucial for both teams," said Cone.

"Alaska has had a brilliant conference. If we had the choice, we could think of a few other teams we'd rather be playing so that we can make that Top Six. But we don't, so Alaska it is. It's going top be a terrific battle," Cone added.

Despite losing their last outing against the Meralco Bolts, the Aces, at 7-2, remain a strong contender for a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals.

They seal the deal with a sweep of their last two games against Ginebra and Phoenix Petroleum.

Both the Gin Kings and the Fuel Masters are dangerous foes, though, especially as they're pushing their quests to make the post-elims play.

Cone and his chargers rallied back to contention in winning their last three games against NLEX, Magnolia and Columbian Dyip.

They're on a tremendous run with a 104-84 rout of the Hotshots and a 134-107 blasting of the Dyp.

The Aces, meanwhile, hit the wall the last time against the Bolts, and saw the end of a seven-game romp. (SB)
