E-Painters eye quick bounce back against dangerous Dyip

E-Painters eye bounce back game against dangerous Dyip

RAIN or Shine has just recently been struck by lightning.

The Elasto Painters try to avoid a similar disaster when they take on a suddenly dangerous Columbian Dyip crew Sunday in the PBA Commissioner's Cup sortie at the Batangas City Coliseum.

Rain or Shine is eyeing a third win in six games while Columbian is equally determined to notch a second win in seven games that would fan its flickering hopes of making it to the quarterfinals.

For the E-Painters to hit their immediate target, they must put the lessons learned from a 105-107 overtime loss to undermanned NorthPort last Wednesday.

In that game, Rain or Shine seemingly became complacent after building up as large as a 25-point third quarter lead over the eight-man Batang Pier and eventually faded in the extension.

"After a tough loss we just have to bounce back from it," said E-Painers coach Caloy Garcia.

"We just have to remain confident of ourselves and play harder that Columbian," Garcia added. "We just have t want it more."

That should be easier said than done against a Columbian side coming off a relatively impressive performance against powerhouse TNT just last Friday.

Despite absorbing a 102-109 loss, the Dyip put up a gallant stance, engaging the heavily-favored KaTropa to 10 deadlocks and even erecting three eight-point leads.

It's just that TNT's poise and experience, typified most by former Houston Rocket Terrence Jones, who scored 14 of his gamehigh 39 points in the decisive fourth quarter, ultimately prevailed.

For sure, Columbian's youth-laden crew would take heart from that recent effort and use it against Rain or Shine.

Bad news for the Dyip, the E-Painters also have experience on their side, led by former Best Import awardee Denzel Bowles and the grizzled Gabe Norwood, Beau Belga and Mark Borboran.

Bowles played the entire 53 minutes against NorthPort, putting up 41 points and 21 rebounds. He should be refreshed enough and ready to do battle once more.

James Yap, who sat out the NorthPort game due to a groin injury, remains doubtful, but the E-Painters still have their other veterans and young guns, led by Ed Daquioag, Rey Nambatac and Javee Mocon.

Those young legs are surely needed if Rain or Shine hopes to keep in step with Columbian's up-tempo style of play anchored on rookie sensation CJ Perez, JP Calvo, Rashawn McCarthy, Jackson Corpuz and Glenn Khobuntin.

Should the Dyip be forced into a half-court set, then they could always turn to Lester Prosper.

In a marked improvement from his 26-point, 14-rebound debut in a 103-110 loss to Magnolia Ang Pambansang Manok last Sunday, Prosper produced 37 and 20, laced by two triples, against TNT and in the process provided his team with the much-needed inside presence.
