Fajardo match up a big challenge for Erram

GOING up against a sixth-time PBA MVP is truly a huge challenge.

And it's something Poy Erram is taking to heart especially in TnT Tropang Giga's PBA Philippine Cup semifinals battle against June Mar Fajardo and the San Miguel Beermen.

The 6-foot-8 Erram so far has been holding his own against the best big man in the league right now after TnT regained the upperhand in the best-of-seven series following a runaway 115-98 win in Game 3 Friday night.

Erram finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while daring the 6-foot-11 Fajardo to leave his comfort zone by hitting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

But those numbers don't reflect the adversity the center from Ateneo had to go through battling Fajardo in the middle, especially with veteran big man and former MVP Kelly Williams still out of the semifinals series.

"June Mar and I have been going at each other ever since I got into the league. So for me, going up against an MVP is always a challenge," said Erram.

"Pero I don't look at it as a player-to-player match up. That's not my intention."

Erram said it's a collective effort on the part of the Tropang Giga trying to contain Fajardo, with help coming from fellow bigs Troy Rosario and back-up Dave Marcelo.

And it's so far, so good for TnT, which forced San Miguel to play catch up in the first three games of their series.

But again, the war is far from over and Erram said the Tropang Giga always have to be prepared against a team as talented and as experienced as the Beermen.

"Talagang every game should be an A-game. Even if I played well or played perfectly, it's not guarantee of a win. Basta laging prepared ka kailangan," he added. (RG)
