Guiao wants Fajardo, Rosario and Pogoy to learn new sets of plays asap

JUNE Mar Fajardo, Troy Rosario, and Roger Pogoy have some catching up to do after finally attending the Gilas Pilipinas daily practices following the grueling PBA Commissioner's Cup title series between San Miguel Beer and TnT Katropa.

National coach Yeng Guiao has scheduled a daily 30-minute workout exclusively for the three players just before the team's regular practice at the Meralco gym in order for them to quickly adapt to the changes made in Gilas' set plays and patterns.

Although the new sets are not complicated, Guiao wanted Fajardo and Co. to get re-acquainted with the system as soon as possible especially with Gilas Pilipinas having only a week left before it departs for Foshan, China for the FIBA World Cup.

"Matagal na naming hinihintay. The rest of the guys are fluid with the system, these three guys have some catching up to do. Kailangan makahabol," said Guiao Tuesday after practice.

The national coach said some of the Gilas patterns had been changed following its 10-day training camp in Spain, where Rosario, Pogoy, and Fajardo failed to join the team owing to the ongoing PBA title series.

"They actually know most of the sets already, but we made some adjustments from Spain, and also based on the scouting report and the video that we already have. Na-adjust lang natin yung patterns natin," he said.

"It's different from the patterns they were running before we went to Spain, kasi hindi naman sila nakasama sa Spain. So meron talagang pagkakaiba ng kaunti."

Returning Kiefer Ravena somehow eased out things for Rosario and Pogoy as he tried to re-orient the two TnT Katropa players to the Gilas plays just before practice.

Pogoy admitted initially failing to recall some of the previous patterns of the team.

"Medyo nakalimutan namin ng kaunti yung plays, pero nung ni-run namin, naalala kaagad naman namin so hindi naman mahirap," said the Gilas gunner.

"Kaunti lang naman yung dinagdag, parang continuation lang nung sa ibang plays namin, so kaya naman."

While Fajardo welcomes the extra time in practice for the three of them, he doesn't see any problem for him and the two Katropa adapting the new plays the soonest possible time.

"Sa tingin ko hindi naman ganoon kakumplikado. Kasi na-run din naman namin (sa practice). Tingin ko madali naman, so sana ma-adapt agad naming," said the San Miguel star.

"May mga plays naman na alam ko, may mga plays din na bago." (RG)
