Incoming Meralco rookie airs voice against racism

THROUGH his social media page, Aaron Black, an incoming PBA rookie with the Meralco Bolts under his dad coach Norman, has spoken, joining the protest over the death of George Floyd and other police killings of black people.

"No place for racism in this world. As a half black American that was raised here in the Philippines, I can truly say that different races can co-exist without all the hate. (It) starts with accepting other people as they are and not stereotyping based on one's skin color or culture," said Black on Twitter.

"Let's do our part and speak up against not only racism in the US but the injustices happening around us here in the Philippines as well. Together we can make a difference," he also posted.

Protesters have taken to the streets across America, with violence flaring in pockets of largely peaceful demonstration fueled by the killings of black people at the hands of police.

Protests have sprung up from Boston to San Francisco after last week's death of Floyd, a black man killed by an officer pressing a knee into his neck.

The officer has been charged with murder, but protesters are demanding three other officers at the scene be prosecuted. All four were fired.

Other Fil-Am PBA players have expressed their disgust.

"Why is that dark skinned people are looked at as criminals or thugs or dirty or ugly or gangsters or hip hop.... or....," Chris Ross posted on his Twitter account.

Fil-Am NBA player Jordan Clarkson, meanwhile, posted on his own social media pages his participation in a peaceful protest together with former NBA player JR Smith.(SB)
