"Kailangan namin matuto": Jeff Chan on Phoenix's latest defeat

Jeff Chan expressed regret in failing to help Phoenix score an upset win over former team Rain or Shine after scoring for 23 of his 26 points in the first half Saturday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Chan made six triples in the first two quarters that saw the Fuel Masters take a 19-point lead at one point, only to run out of gas in the second half when the Elasto Painters tightened their defense to complete a come-from-behind 108-106 victory.

"Nakakainis," Chan said. "Trabaho tayo ng first half and then after that, babawiin lang. Kailangan namin matuto."

The loss was Phoenix's fourth in a row, dropping to 3-6 with two games left in the eliminations.

Phoenix needs to beat GlobalPort on June 20 and Alaska on July 6 to stay in contention for at least a playoff for the eighth and final quarterfinals berth.

It was the third straight time that Chan failed to beat Rain or Shine since he was traded to Phoenix last August.

Chan had his best years at Rain or Shine, winning two championships and a Finals Most Valuable Player award in the 2012 Governors' Cup.

It appeared that the third time was finally a charm for Chan after torching his old team for four triples in the first quarter.

But again, victory eluded Chan and the rest of the Fuel Masters yet again.

"Parang everytime na humahabol sila ang ginagawa namin na instead mag-stop, binabawi agad sa offense," Chan lamented. "Nagmamadali kami at ang nangyayari, lalo sila nakakahabol. Malalaman namin lamang na pala sila."(JT)
