Norwood: E-Painters lost to a determined San Miguel team

Gabe Norwood had a solid game against San Miguel but the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters still came up short against the Beermen, 103-96, in the PBA Governors' Cup last Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

"Great team. They're going for the grand slam and they competed like they needed to win," Norwood said.

Norwood said their inability to match up the intensity of the Beermen was factor in their loss.

"We played catch-up from the start. It's tough win in that situation when you're playing San Miguel," Norwood admitted.

A member of the Gilas Pilipinas that placed seventh in the recent FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon, Norwood turned in 10 points, had five rebounds and three assists in an all-around effort against San Miguel. He also had two steals and one shot block.

"Chris came out and played a great game. I don't know when was the last time he hit five threes in a game. We weren't really counting on that," said Norwood, referring to Chris Ross, San Miguel's dynamic guard who finished with 27 points.

What makes the loss even more frustrating is that the Beermen practically got no help from import Terik Bridgeman, who managed just four points in 15 minutes.

"This is not the first time they've won a game with little help from their import. The bottom line is, we have should have played aggressively no matter what. Unfortunately, that did not happen," Norwood said.

The loss tied Rain or Shine with San Miguel on similar 4-3 win loss record.
