PBA teams off and running

PBA players and coaches are back in full scrimmages preparing for the resumption of the Governors' Cup by Feb. 11.

And all of them couldn't be more ecstatic just being back and playing again after games were suspended for about a month following the recent spikes in COVID-19 cases.

"Ang sarap ng maglaro," said guard Roger Pogoy, whose TNT team was among the last to see action before the league went on a holiday break that was eventually stretched following the unscheduled interruption.

"I have not been able to get my team together as a group for a month now. But you never know when you're coming back how you're going to start off," added coach Norman Black of Meralco, one of only two teams still unbeaten before the conference was postponed temporarily.

The Commissioner's Office gave teams at least 10 days of scrimmages starting Feb. 1 prior to the restart of the season-ending meet.

Barangay Ginebra and Phoenix share the same practice facility at Upperdeck, Meralco has its own gym inside the firm's vast compound in Ortigas, Alaska does its thing at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong, Blackwater at Aero Sports in Quezon City, Magnolia at the Ronac gym in San Juan, while TNT Tropang Giga practices at Moro Lorenzo gym.

Others like San Miguel is in Acropolis gym, NorthPort in Green Meadows, NLEX at Epsilon Chi Center inside UP Diliman, Rain or Shine at Reyes gym, and Terrafirma at the Azure Urban and Resort Residences in Bicutan.

Rain or Shine coach Chris Gavina can't wait for actual games to finally begin especially with the Elasto Painters raring to comeback after closing 2021 with a heartbreaking loss to TNT Tropang Giga, 95-92, for a 2-3 record.

"I've just been stressing to my players, to the team, and coaches to focus on getting ourselves in better condition, so when we comeback we're not at ground zero and we can just go out and sprinting on the floor," said Gavina in the Power & Play program. (RG)
