Rey Nambatac: Born to play basketball

By: Rey Nambatac

You could say I was born to play basketball. I was introduced to the game when I was 7 years old. My dad influenced me to play basketball kasi dati din siyang basketball player. He dreamt to also play in the PBA pero hindi natupad dahil nagkaron sya ng mga injuries.

My dad thought me practically everything he experience from playing basketball. Kahit may edad na yung dad ko naglalaro pa rin siya ng basketball at isinasama niya ako lagi kapag may laro siya.

Isinasama din ako ng dad ko sa ligang nilalaruan niya. Kadalasan ako and pinaka-bata sa line-up nila. Kinalaunan pumasok na sa isip ko na basketball ang sports na gusto ko at seseryosohin ko ito.

At the age of 15, former Letran coach Reynold Dangcal convinced me to try out for the Squires. God is good because I earned a spot in the Squires line-up.

Being a member of the Letran Squires was a big opportunity. I considered it the first step toward reaching my goal of making it to the PBA.

After graduating from high school, I opted to stay at Letran for my college education and play for the Knights. I was convinced my style of play was perfectly fitted for the Knights.

I won a championship with the Knights in 2015. Yun yung break na hinhintay ko para makilala ng mga tao. Dahil sa Letran naipakita ko yung talent ko.

To make a long story short, I was lucky to be selected in the 2017 Rookie Draft. It was truly a dream come true for me. This is my ultimate goal, to play in the PBA.

I know it's just the beginning and I will never stop working hard until I get my minutes and trust of the coaches.
