RJ Jazul sets career milestone

DISCIPLINE and a healthy lifestyle.

It's as simple as that according to RJ Jazul on the reason why he managed to play for 300 consecutive games - and counting - despite the rigors and physicality in the PBA.

"Alaga lang sa katawan and disiplina," said Jazul after receiving a plaque Wednesday night at halftime of the Phoenix-Alaska Governors Cup game for being the third active player to see action in 300 straight games.

He joins Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio and Mark Barroca of Magnolia in that distinct company.

The award came as a surprise for Jazul.

"Hindi ko nga alam, e." he said. "Pero siyempre thankful tayo. Ibig sabihin tumatanda na tayo sa liga."

The 33-year-old Jazul, a second round pick of Alaska in the 2010 draft, said it's a good thing that he's playing under coach Louie Alas now with the Fuel Masters, the same man who handled him in college while with the Letran Knights.

"Malaking bagay na sa kanya ako nag-college," he said of Alas. "He's telling us to have discipline and always take care of your body. And until now na nandito ka na sa PBA, ganun pa rin dapat ang mentality mo."

Jazul, who also had stints with Rain or Shine and Air21, hopes to keep his streak going.

"Sana tuluy-tuloy lang. Safe and walang injury. Yun lang naman ang gusto natin," he said.
