Rookie big man Laput gets sound advice from mentor Rob Reyes

IS James Laput the big man Terrafirma has long been waiting for?

The 6-foot-8 rookie is not promising anything but is ready to take the challenge of anchoring the middle for a rejigged Dyip side in the PBA 46th season.

"I just have to make the most of the chance that I will be given," said Laput, who was signed to a three-year deal by the Dyip.

Laput, out of La Salle, was picked no. 8 by the franchise in the last rookie draft in a bid to fill in the huge hole of Terrafirma in the middle.

He's one of two first round picks hauled by the Dyip along with no. 1 overall selection Joshua Munzon.

Young as he is, Laput admitted getting a lot of wordy advice from his mentor Rob Reyes, the retired Fil-Am big man who won two championships with Talk N Text.

"He just told me at the end of the day, it's the same game. You got a lot ahead of you. You just got to make the most of the chance, max effort, and take it what it is," said Laput of the words of wisdom given him by Reyes, who played in the league from 2008 to 2016.

"With that open mind and willingness to learn and grow, and just listen to the coaches and my teammates, I think us in Terrafirma, along with the pieces we have, we can turn some heads. I feel like we can." (RG)
