Standhardinger says his job is not to be a key piece or make something happen for San Miguel

Christian Standhardinger doesn't see himself as the final piece in San Miguel's Grand Slam puzzle once he makes his much-anticipated debut for the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Expectations are high that Standhardinger's arrival after an impressive stint in the ABL has made the Beermen a more superior team going into the second conference as the Fil-German teams up with June Mar Fajardo, Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, Marcio Lassiter and Chris Ross.

But Standhardinger is more concerned on doing whatever he can to make sure San Miguel continue its ongoing success and complete the Grand Slam bid that was derailed last season.

"I don't like to talk about that stuff. They have a very great team already. So my job is not to get in here and try to be a key piece or try to make something happen," Standhardinger said after attending his first SMB practice Saturday at the Acropolis gym.

"My job is to really see what I can do and what I can personally do to make this great team a little bit better. I will try to do that, and we will see what happens, and I hope that we win two more championships this year," added Standhardinger.

Standhardinger was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Beermen in the PBA Draft last October but missed the team's title run in the Philippine Cup due to his ABL stint with Hong Kong Eastern.

The 28-year-old Fil-German arrived Friday from Hong Kong after his team was eliminated in the semi-finals by Alab Pilipinas last weekend.
