Von Pessumal's moment to shine

Von Pessumal has long been waiting for his moment to shine.

The big day came Sunday and Pessumal didn't waste the opportunity. He stood up and delivered.

With Marcio Lassiter saddled with four fouls in the first half, San Miguel coach Leo Austria turned to his bench and did not hesitate to insert Pessumal to fill Lassiter's spot.

The Beerman badly need a win to secure their spot in the Top Six and the Alaska Aces are no pushovers.

In fact, Alaska had a good game going until the 6-foot-2 swingman weaved his magic. He scored 14 points -- spiked by three triples -- had three rebounds, three steals, and an assist to help the Beermen to a 114-96 rout over the Aces.

Significantly, half of Pessumal's output came during a 15-5 run that extended an eight-point lead to a 94-76 cushion with 8:11 left to play.

"I'm just ready to play every game. I know sometimes things don't go your way, like kanina three fouls si Marcio. In order for us to get back in the game I have to step up talaga," Pessumal said.

"It's always good to win especially 'pag malapit na playoffs kasi not only do we get better positioning but our confidence coming into the playoffs mataas," said the third-year guard out of Ateneo.

"hopefully we can keep going until the playoffs." (JB)
