IF HE can help it, Jimmy Alapag won't let his Talk N Text team go down without a fight.
Alapag showcased it most by helping the Tropang Texters notch back-to-back wins that kept them alive
in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal duel with Petron Blaze and earned for himself the Accel-PBA
Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the period Jan. 9 to 15.
The reigning Most Valuable Player shone the brightest in those back-to-back wins that enabled the
defending champions to tie the best-of-seven series at 3-all, force a deciding game on Wednesday and
possibly become only the third team in league history to complete a comeback from a 1-3 deficit.
“This is still our championship and it’s ours until somebody takes it away,” said Alapag.
He put those words into more concrete form by pouring in 29 points while adding 10 assists and seven
rebounds in leading TnT to a 111-108 win in Game 6 last Sunday.
That performance came on the heels of his triple in the last 44 seconds of Game 5 just two days
before, a shot that proved crucial in helping the Texters escape with a 93-91 win.
Foremost among those who admired those deeds was TnT coach Chot Reyes.
“The last two games exemplify his value,” said Reyes of his team captain. “In Game 5 he barely
scored (five points) yet provided spiritual leadership and stability. But when needed, he scored and
assisted, as in Game 6.”
The man who has continued to be nagged by an assortment of calf and ankle injuries that made him
miss nine games in the eliminations alone said he was simply trying to do his end and hope it rubs
off on his teammates.
“No matter what, we just got to keep fighting,” he stressed. “We’ve got to fight and fight
until we can’t fight anymore.” (NC)

Tropang Texters coach Chot Reyes may want to just "rest and forget basketball" for a while, but the mid-season PBA Commissioner's Cup starts Feb. 10, making it imperative that their respite be a short one.
