Marinerong Pilipino-San Beda not taking any chances against upset conscious CCI-Yengskivel

MARINERONG Pilipino-San Beda eyes a share of the lead when it takes on upset conscious CCI-Yengskivel on Thursday in the 2024 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Red Lions hope to stay sharp coming off a two-week break, well aware that they will be facing an inspired opponent seeking a follow up to their 83-73 victory against Keanzel Basketball on Tuesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

A third straight win by the Red Lions would push them into a first place tie with the Green Archers, who smothered the Centro Escolar University Scorpions, 89-61, also on Tuesday.

But the reigning NCAA champions are not looking ahead, opting to stay cautious instead rather than be a victim of overconfidence.

"Rerespetuhin namin lahat ng kalaban namin. Iyon naman palagi ang mindset. Hindi namin sila pwedeng i-take for granted," said coach Yuri Escueta, whose wards drubbed Go Torakku-St. Clare, 92-59, and Keanzel, 109-59.

Veterans James Payosing, the NCAA Finals MVP, Yukien Andrada and Jomel Puno along with prized acquisitions Bryan Sajonia and Penny Estacio are expected to carry the fight for the Red Lions.

The Crusaders promise to give the Red Lions a run for their money.

"Syempre, San Beda ang isa sa teams to beat dito kasama ang La Salle. Kailangan namin mag-double time talaga. Ang taktika nalang siguro ay makadikit hanggang kaya at baka makasingit sa end game," observed CCI-Yengskivel coach Arwin Adina.

Hopefully, Victor Ryan Nuarin, Castor Troy Manipolo, Kenneth Tener and Kenjie Ryan Buenaflor will be at their best and lead the Crusaders to their second win in three games. (JBU)
