All eyes on Terrence Romeo as TNT, GlobalPort clash

The 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup finally gets going Sunday with an opening play bill headlined by Terrence Romeo's first game with TNT KaTropa curiously right against his former team GlobalPort.

TNT introduces prep-to-pro player Jeremy Tyler while GlobalPort brings back Malcolm White, but much of the attention is on Romeo as he struts his stuff with TNT after a celebrated four-year stint with GlobalPort.

The Texters and the Batang Pier, figuring in a blockbuster trade after an early playoff exit in the recent Philippine Cup, collide at 6:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Also moving over to the Texters camp from GlobalPort is Yousef Taha while Moala Tautuaa jumped over to the Batang Pier side from TNT.

The three players all appear to have moved forward and now looking forward to having a triumphant first game with their new team.

Thrice emerging as scoring champ with GlobalPort, Romeo expresses willingness to play behind Jayson Castro for as long as they get the W's.

In his new team, Romeo is also playing with other lethal gunners and brilliant backcourt operators in RR Garcia, Ryan Reyes and RR Pogoy.

Filling the hole in the TNT frontcourt is Tyler, a 6-foot-10 behemoth who had stints with the Golden State Warriors, the Atlanta Hawks and the New York Knicks in the NBA.

The San Diego, California native made it to the majors even without not just college basketball but senior year of high school play. He was the 39th overall pick by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Meanwhile, Stanley Pringle is likely to blossom all the more as GlobalPort's new main man on the departure of Romeo.

The prolific Fil-Am guard contended for the Best Player of the Conference award in the all-Filipino conference with a consistent top-notch performance. He had a remarkable stats line of 20.18 points, 7.5 points and 4.6 assists per game through the elims.

White makes a return stint with the GlobalPort team where he came in as a replacement import Sean Williams last year.

The Louisiana State U product is among the returning imports in the tourney along with Arinze Onuaku (Meralco), Jarrid Famous (Blackwater), James White (Phoenix) and Vernon Macklin (Magnolia). (SB)
