Chris Gavina, former KIA coach, makes PBA return next season

Former Kia coach Chris Gavina will make his PBA return next season after being hired as an assistant of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Friday.

Gavina met with Rain or Shine team governor Mamerto Mondragon to formalize his appointment as part of coach Caloy Garcia's staff ahead of the team's preparation for the PBA's 44th season which opens in mid-January.

"I am extremely honored and grateful for the trust and from Coach Caloy Garcia, (Rain or Shine co-owners) Boss Raymond (Yu and) Boss Terry (Que) and Attorney Mamerto (Mondragon) for this opportunity and I'm looking forward to joining the Rain or Shine team for the next season," said Gavina.

The 39-year-old resigned from the Picanto two games into this season's Philippine Cup.

Gavina is best remembered for steering the Columbian Autocar Corporation franchise to its first and still only quarterfinal appearance which came in the 2016 Governors' Cup when the team was known as the Mahindra Enforcer.
