Dyip gearing up for tougher grind ahead

TERRAFIRMA does not want to lose any momentum it gained in its last game, especially now that its target in the PBA Philippine Cup remains firmly in sight.

Coach Johnedel Cardel said his Dyip are continuing to work hard during their almost three-week break as the league gave way to its All-Star Weekend and Holy Week break.

"Tuloy-tuloy ang workout nila. Kahit 'yung mga nasa All-Stars (Isaac Go, Stephen Holt, Juami Tiongson and Javi Gomez de Liano) magkakasama silang nag-wo-workout, pati bonding," related Cardel.

"Kaya nga sabi namin sa group chat, 'Good job, at least tuloy ang trabaho.' Balik kami sa regular practice sa Monday, break ulit sa Maundy Thursday hanggang Black Saturday, then balik sa Easter Sunday," added Cardel.

The extra effort is surely needed by Terrafirma, more so now that a tougher grind awaits it when the tournament resumes.

The Dyip return to the court on April 3 against Meralco before winding up its elimination round assignments against Barangay Ginebra (April 7), San Miguel Beer (April 10), Rain or Shine) April 13, NorthPort (April 24) and Magnolia (May 3).

Currently with a 3-2 record, Terrafirma needs to win at least three of its remaining games to realize a first playoffs appearance in almost 10 years or since the 2016 Governors Cup.

"Mabigat-bigat na second phase na ito, pero at least on track pa rin kami," noted Cardel.

Buoying up Cardel's hopes is the way his side battled its way past Blackwater last March 16, overcoming a 19-point third quarter deficit to eke out a 92-91 thriller that cut short a two-game slide.

"Hindi nag-give up ang mga players, nagtulong-tulong at eventually ayun, bumagsak ang panalo sa amin," said Cardel.

"Big win talaga para sa amin iyon and now we're seeing to it na hindi masayang iyon," Cardel also said.

"Everybody's sacrificing talaga sa ensayo, workout. Sana tuloy na healthy sila hanggang matapos para tuloy din momentum namin." (NC)
