Fajardo leads list of winners in PBA Leo Awards

PBA Season 47 MVP June Mar Fajardo bannered the total of 19 honorees recognized during the Annual Leo Awards on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 33-year-old Fajardo, who bagged a record seventh MVP plum, was named part of the First Mythical Team along with Scottie Thompson, Christian Standhardinger, CJ Perez, and Jamie Malonzo.

Thompson, Standhardinger, and Perez crowded the 6-foot-10 Fajardo in the fight for the season's MVP.

The Second Mythical Team meanwhile, featured Gilas Pilipinas pool members Calvin Oftana, Arvin Tolentino, and Calvin Abueva together with Robert Bolick and Mikey Williams.

Big man Justin Arana of Converge on the other hand, won Rookie of the Year honor over Blackwater's Ato Ular, while Maverick Ahanmisi, the newly-acquired Barangay Ginebra King, emerged as the season's Most Improved Player over Tolentino.

The duo of Fajardo and Standhardinger served as pillars of the All-Defensive Team along with Cliff Hodge, Chris Newsome, and Jio Jalalon.

Kevin Alas for his part won the Samboy Lim Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year.

PBA chairman Ricky Vargas led the entire Board during the award proceedings, along with Commissioner Ricky Vargas and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al S. Panlilio.

Board of governors present were Alfrancis Chua (Barangay Ginebra), Atty. Raymond Zorilla (Phoenix), Robert Non (San Miguel), Rene Pardo (Magnolia), Atty. Mamerto Mondragon (Rain or Shine), Atty. Bill Pamintuan (Meralco), Erick Arejola (Northport), Bobby Rosales (Terrafirma), Siliman Sy (Blackwater), Archen Cayabyab (Converge), and Rod Franco (NLEX). (RG)
