How will PBA move forward? Board members discuss it Monday

ISSUES on moving forward amidst pandemic are on top of the agenda as the PBA board of governors convenes in a special meeting Monday.

Vaccination rollout for members of the PBA family, finances and update on the inaugural PBA 3x3 will also be discussed, with PBA officials remaining positive they can go on with the Season 46 inaugurals not beyond June.

"I'm still hoping we can start late May or in June," said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial. "Dadali ang lahat kung makakuha na tayo ng vaccine."

Some governors will attend the meeting physically, with others via Zoom as they tackle ticklish issues, including some plans stymied by the return of the National Capital Region to strict quarantine status.

And thus it has become a waiting game for the league, with the teams waiting for Metro Manila to ease back to MGCQ that will allow resumption of 5x5 scrimmages.

Also in pause is the training of CJ Perez, Moala Tautuaa, Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol for the 3x3 Olympic qualifying tournament on May 26-30 in Graz, Austria.

"Gov. Al Panlilio will update us on the plan," said Marcial, referring to the Meralco governor who is also the president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

Alaska governor Dicky Bachmann, meanwhile, will report updates on the formation of PBA 3x3.

The plan is to hold two 5x5 conferences and three 3x3 tournaments for Season 46.

Before the imposition by the government of the "NCR plus bubble" followed by the re-imposition of the ECQ, the PBA had had an agreement with the Rizal government for the holding of Season 46 All-Filipino at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. (SB)
