Manuel stays with Alaska

ALL'S well that ends well with Vic Manuel and Alaska.

According to Manuel's agent, Danny Espiritu, the "Muscle Man" is set to sign a new contract with his team for the last seven years after an amiable compromise was reached between the forward and Aces management.

"We are almost done on a (new) contract for Vic," Espiritu divulged Wednesday. "In a matter of days, maybe next week, we will sign the deal."

The long-time player representative did not disclose the terms of the new deal, but another insider bared the new contract is for two years, worth the league maximum of P420,000 a month, excluding bonuses.

Those terms were seemingly enough to appease Manuel, whose initial talks with Alaska bogged down after his old contract expired last December.

Manuel had initially wanted a fresh three-year deal but Alaska only offered a two-year pact with a team option on the second year.

That did not sit well with the 33-year-old and he promptly demanded to be traded despite Alaska coach Jeffrey Cariaso personally sitting down with him and promising to build the Aces around the "Muscle Man."

Alaska has the seventh pick overall and a couple of second round rights in the super-stacked PBA Season 46 Draft on March 14.

According to reports, Aces management did talk to other teams, notably Meralco, NorthPort and NLEX, for a possible trade but those talks did not pan out. (NC)
