Mayor Vico Sotto okays PBA play at Ynares Arena

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has hinted his approval of their hosting of the PBA games, clearing the way for the launch of the inaugural PBA 3x3 at the Ynares Sports Arena on Nov. 20.

Sotto made known his thoughts on contact sports in their city in a message to his constituents through his official Facebook account.

"Hinihingi ko po ang inyong kooperasyon: Bawal po muna ang contact sports (maliban kung may special permit, katulad ng PBA)," Sotto stated.

"Tuloy na tuloy na ang 3x3. Wala pang official letter from the Mayor's Office, but Mayor Vico has already expressed his approval on Twitter," said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

The 3x3 is a go on Nov. 20, but still up in the air is the opening day of the PBA Governors' Cup, pending the completion of the imports roster.

"It's a reinforced conference so dapat kumpleto ang imports. We're a bit lenient on deadlines regarding the imports because of the situation we're in right now," said Marcial.

"Because of the pandemic, may kahirapan ang proseso ng papers and there's the quarantine protocol that the imports have to go through. Then, they have to practice first with their teams," Marcial added.

As per the monitoring of the PBA Commissioner's Office, the early birds would be the reinforcements of the Alaska Milk Aces, the NorthPort Batang Pier and the San Miguel Beermen.

Imports clashing in the tourney are Justin Brownlee (Ginebra), Mike Harris (Magnolia), Paul Harris (Phoenix), Henry Walker (Rain or Shine), Brendan Brown (San Miguel Beer), KJ McDaniels (NLEX), Olu Ashaoulu (Alaska), McKenzie Moore (TNT), Shabazz Muhammad (Meralco), Antonio Hester (Terrafirma), Jaylen Bond (Blackwater) and Cameron Forte (NorthPort).

For the PBA 3x3, 10 PBA regular teams and three non affiliates rumble in a six-leg, three-conference calendar culminating in three grand finals where leg winners pocket P100,000 and grand finals champs earn P750,000. (SB)
