PBA players learn to do odd jobs during quarantine period

PBA players get to discover a lot about themselves with the league's 45th season still on a break for a third month now.

From learning how to bake to being a jack of all trades, four former Gilas Pilipinas teammates learned a lot of things they've never imagined doing as games remain indefinitely suspended due to the pandemic.

"It's very challenging, very tricky," said Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio on how he spent the past few months just being quarantined at home.

"Marami akong na-discover. Gumaling ako sa math by teaching my kids," Tenorio proudly said in the latest episode of the PBA Kamustahan. "I'm good at math right now. Addition, multiplication, subtraction, division."

Like Tenorio, San Miguel Beer assistant coach Jimmy Alapag also had a lot of time bonding with his kids.

"I think my reading has gone better because I read a lot to my kids," said the former Gilas Pilipinas team captain. "With the kids having so much time at home, you do a lot of things like reading, teaching, or being on the Ipad for two to three hours," said Alapag.

"Lots of Disney movies for sure. I'm a professional on Disney movies and songs."

The Alab Pilipinas head coach even got to help wife LJ Moreno in her pastries and cake business.

"My packaging skills for LJ's business, I'm now a professional," Alapag proudly said.

Another Barangay Ginebra stalwart in Jeff Chan meanwhile, has learned to cook breakfast for his children and is now into baking.

The veteran gunner likewise began a liking to cats.

"Yung kids ko at si Donna (wife), mahilig sa cats. Eventually itong three months na ito, nagustuhan ko na rin yung cats, kahit ayaw ko before," Chan disclosed. "So now ako na yung nagtatanggal ng dumi, nag-i-schedule ng foods nila."

Chan and family has four Persian cats at home.

Rain or Shine's Gabe Norwood for his part said that aside from reading, he now became fond of taking care of plants.

"My wife has began being into gardening. She's been purchasing little plants, and in the condo we don't have enough space, so we kind of maximize our balcony," he said.

And Gabe's job?

"My role is to just water plants. Two times a day. I have my morning shift and my evening shift. If any plants die, it's my fault," said the Fil-Am playmaker.

There's even more.

"I'm a plumber right now, I'm a car wash boy right now, I'm a professional clearner already dito sa bahay," added Tenorio.

But the most severe he did was to fix the septic tank in the house after it overflowed.

"I have to fix it. I cleaned it (with our houseboy). It was really bad timing and I can't call anyone," said Tenorio.

"I think I can still smell it," said LA as he tried to sniff both his hands. (RG)
