The oldest, next oldest, other oldies for Season 47

MAGNOLIA'S Rafi Reavis and Meralco's Reynel Hugnatan will continue to lead the charge of the never-say-die seniors as PBA Season 47 unwraps Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Reavis struts his stuff for his 19th season at age 44 while Hugnatan plays his 18th season at 43.

The two are now the active longest serving PBA players with NLEX's Asi Taulava, 49, no longer in the roster of players, at least for the opening of the new season.

Last season, Taulava still saw action in three games, collecting a total of 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

NorthPort's Arwind Santos, the 2013 MVP awardee, is now the third oldest warrior as he's turning 41 on June 10.

Others set to plunge into battle in their 40s are TNT Tropang Giga's Kelly Williams (40) and the returning Larry Fonacier (40) of NLEX.

Most of the teams get younger with their infusion of young blood, then there are those teams that stick with their tried and tested mix.

Can't blame Barangay Ginebra, San Miguel Beer and TNT for not tinkering with their core group since their players are still very much in the peak of their playing career.

Take for example the SMB lineup: The oldest is Chris Ross at 37 and the youngest is CJ Perez at 28. The team has an average of 32.08, with main man June Mar Fajardo himself at 32.

Coming from their Commissioner's Cup title run, the Gin Kings also kept their team intact, led by veterans LA Tenorio at 37 and Jeff Chan at 39.

The Philippine Cup champs Tropang Giga, meanwhile, are a merry mix of youth and experience. After Williams, the most experienced are Ryan Reyes at 38 and Jayson Castro at 35.(SB)
