Kings back in groove, blaze past Bossing

FROM an upset by Terrafirma, no way Barangay Ginebra would allow itself to fall in another ambush.

The Gin Kings got back into the groove and whipped the Blackwater Bossing, 105-86, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the PhilSports Arena Friday night.

Scottie Thompson delivered eight assists, seven rebounds and four points in a return from a long injury layoff but it was Christian Standhardinger who really made the big difference with a monstrous 33-point job as the Kings checked a two-game slide.

Maverick Ahanmisi, Ralph Cu and Jamie Malonzo contributed double-digit outputs as the Kings regained their bearing and wheeled back into the Top 4 with a 4-3 win-loss record.

Ahamisi and Cu fired 14 points apiece while Malonzo rifled in 11 as the Kings made a big turnaround from their 91-85 upset of the Dyip and in the process sent the Bossing reeling to a fourth straight loss after three successive wins.

Japeth Aguilar had his own turnaround from a flat performance the last time out, coming through with nine points and the same number of rebounds just in 19 minutes of action.

But it was really Standhardinger's night.

The 6-foot-8 center/forward, confined on the bench in the whole fourth quarter in their upset by the Dyip, played with gusto in 31 minutes of action in this game, going 12-of-17 from the field and 9-of-11 from the stripe.

He also piled up six rebounds and five assists, easily negating six turnovers as he starred in their 19-point rout of the Bossing that got them back in the fight for the Top 2 and the twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals.

Standhardinger buckled down to work early and stood at the forefront of their early breakaway as the Kings carried a 19-point spread over to the final half.

In the third, Cu had his moment with four three-pointers as the Gin Kings even stretched their lead to 27 going to the final quarter.

And there's no stopping the Gin Kings from getting back on the winning track.(SB)
